How to choose vape accessories

Start with what you already own. A tank needs to screw onto your mod’s 510 thread and take coils your mod’s wattage range can drive — a sub-ohm tank needs a mod capable of higher wattage, while an MTL tank is built for lower-wattage, higher-resistance coils. A spare battery needs to be the same size (almost always 18650 for the mods we stock) and a discharge rating that comfortably covers the wattage you vape at. A device-specific accessory, such as a pod for a particular kit, only fits that exact model — check the product title against your device before ordering.

The 510 thread itself is a near-universal standard, so thread compatibility is rarely the issue — what actually determines whether a tank works well on your mod is the coil range it takes and the wattage that range is built to run at. A tank rated for coils down to 0.14Ω needs a mod that can comfortably push 60-80W or more; fitting the same tank to a mod that tops out at 40W will give a weak, underwhelming vape even though the tank physically screws on fine. Checking your mod’s maximum wattage against a tank’s coil range before buying is a more reliable guide than going on tank size or brand name alone.

Sub-ohm tanks (direct-lung)

Sub-ohm tanks screw onto a 510-thread mod and use low-resistance coils at higher wattage for big clouds. Pair them with low-strength freebase e-liquid, such as 3mg — see our Freebase vs Salt Nicotine E-Liquid guide if you’re not sure which strength to buy.

All five sub-ohm tanks here use a top-fill design, so you don’t need to remove the tank from your mod to refill it — just twist or slide open the top cap. Coil range and juice capacity are the two practical differences worth weighing: the GeekVape Zeus Sub Ohm and Vaporesso iTank T hold the most e-liquid at 5-6ml, useful if you don’t want to refill often, while the compact GeekVape Z Nano 2 trades capacity for a smaller, more pocketable size. The VOOPOO TPP Pod 2 is the outlier of the group, built as a pod-style tank for VOOPOO’s Drag series mods rather than a standalone sub-ohm setup, and its coils are sold separately rather than included.

Caring for your tank

A sub-ohm or MTL tank lasts longer with basic care. Rinse the glass and base section with water (not the coil) if e-liquid residue builds up, and let all parts dry fully before reassembling and refilling, since trapped moisture can affect the next coil’s performance. Check the o-rings periodically for wear or splitting, since a degraded o-ring is one of the most common causes of a tank leaking from the base or the top-fill cap. If a tank’s glass cracks, most of the tanks listed here use a standard replacement glass tube rather than requiring the whole tank to be replaced.

MTL tanks (mouth-to-lung)

MTL tanks are narrow and use higher-resistance coils for a tight, cigarette-like draw with nicotine salts or 12–18mg freebase.

18650 batteries

Choose a cell whose continuous discharge rating suits the wattage you vape at, check the wrap for tears before fitting it, and never carry loose cells in a pocket with keys or coins; use a battery case. The two cells we stock trade capacity against output slightly differently: the AWT 18650 3500mAh gives longer runtime between charges, while the EFEST 18650 3000mAh’s lower capacity generally means it can sustain a higher continuous discharge rate, which matters more if you regularly vape at the top end of your mod’s wattage range. For most single-battery mods used at moderate wattage, either cell will comfortably cover a full day between charges; a dual-battery mod or very high-wattage use is where discharge rating becomes the more important factor to check against your mod’s manual.

Replace a cell rather than continuing to use it once you notice the wrap is torn, the battery feels warm at rest, or the mod’s runtime has dropped noticeably compared to when the cell was new — a damaged wrap in particular should never be re-taped and used, since the exposed metal casing risks a short circuit. Only ever charge 18650 cells in a dedicated external charger, not by leaving them in the mod plugged into a USB cable, unless the mod’s manual specifically states in-device charging is supported for that cell.

Will any tank fit my mod?
Any tank with a standard 510 thread will screw onto any 510-thread mod, but the tank’s coil range needs to suit your mod’s wattage output — a sub-ohm tank on a low-wattage mod will underperform, and an MTL tank on a high-wattage mod can burn the coil.

Can I use any 18650 battery in my mod?
Only if the cell’s continuous discharge rating (measured in amps) comfortably covers your mod’s maximum wattage. Check your mod’s manual for its minimum discharge requirement before buying a replacement cell.

How do I know if my tank uses sub-ohm or MTL coils?
Sub-ohm tanks are wider and take lower-resistance coils (below 1.0Ω) for direct-lung vaping; MTL tanks are narrower and take higher-resistance coils (1.2Ω and above) for a tighter, cigarette-like draw.

Is it safe to carry a spare battery loose in my pocket?

Can I replace just the glass on a sub-ohm tank instead of buying a whole new tank?
Usually, yes. Most sub-ohm tanks, including the ones listed here, use a standard replacement glass tube, so a cracked tank rarely needs full replacement.

How often should I clean my tank?
Whenever you notice a flavour carrying over between e-liquids, or residue building up around the airflow or base. Rinsing the glass and base with water and letting them dry fully before refilling is usually enough.

Should I choose the AWT or EFEST 18650 cell?
The AWT 3500mAh gives longer runtime; the EFEST 3000mAh generally sustains a higher continuous discharge rate. Check your mod’s manual for its minimum discharge requirement before choosing.

How do I know when to replace an 18650 battery?
Replace it if the wrap is torn, it feels warm at rest, or your mod’s runtime has dropped noticeably. Never re-tape a torn wrap and keep using the cell.

Can I charge an 18650 battery inside my mod using a USB cable?
Only if your mod’s manual specifically supports in-device charging for that cell. Otherwise, use a dedicated external charger.
