Auto-Draw vs Button Disposables: How Each Device Type Is Used

Auto draw vape devices start heating when you inhale, while button devices start only while you press a button. Some devices accept either. This guide explains the difference using one manufacturer manual and the activation type stated on Vapor AE product listings, checked on 7 November 2026. Jump to: Auto-draw · Button · Both · In-stock examples · FAQ.

Auto-draw (draw-activated) devices

An auto-draw device, also called draw-activated, fires when you inhale through the mouthpiece. There is no button to press. Vapor AE listings for the Tugboat EVO, Yuoto XXL, Elf Bar BC3500 and RELX Ace all state draw activation, and several say there are no buttons or settings. The Voopoo Argus G3 listing uses the term auto-draw for the same behaviour.

Listings for these devices describe use in the same way: inhale gently through the mouthpiece and the device fires on the draw. Because nothing has to be pressed, the way you use the device is simply how you inhale.

Button-activated devices

A button device fires while a button is pressed. Among the Vapor AE listings checked, the LOSTVAPE Ursa Nano Pro 2 states button firing. Button devices are found among pod kits rather than among the disposables checked for this guide, none of which stated a button.

Some manufacturers also add a button sequence to switch a device on or off. The Vaporesso XROS 4 user manual says to click the power button 5 times in 2 seconds to power the XROS 4 on or off. Other makers use different sequences, so follow the manual that comes with your own device.

Devices that offer both

Some pod kits can be fired either way. The Vaporesso XROS 4 user manual states: “The device is both button-activated and draw-activated.” It says to press the power button or inhale directly through the mouthpiece to start vaping.

Vapor AE lists several kits with this dual option, including the Vaporesso Xros 4 Nano (auto-draw and button), the Vaporesso Xros 2 (draw or Halo button), the Uwell Crown D (draw or button) and the Justfog Minifit S (auto-draw or button).
